New Concrete Processing Plant All Go
Our new concrete processing plant is now fully operational and has received a Certificate of Excellence for the recent Plant Audit completed by ConcreteNZ.
With the huge projects we are know undertaking including the Whakatohea Mussell Farm factory, Opotiki Harbour Redevelopment and Opotiki Footpaths Upgrades, alongside our normal requests for farm pads, new home pads, driveways and more, having the ability to produce and deliver the concrete we need for these projects as efficiently as possible is absolutely critical.
For many of these projects, the concrete supply is just a small part of the bigger picture but it is also vital that we complete our part on time and on budget to allow the rest of the project to continue to plan. Therefore, our ability to get concrete processed and out to site as quickly as possible is of major importance to our business.
Back in the Old Days
Prior to making our new concrete processing plant operational, we have been using our original processing plant which is a very manual operation involving buttons and levers compared to computer panels and automated delivery systems.
We are still retaining our original processing plant as a back-up as it still works perfectly but just to a much slower rate and capacity.
Maximum Efficiency
Our new plant is run from a computer programme where we input each concrete order for loading into the trucks. As each truck pulls into place, we release the order to the plant which then measures and releases the mix required. This is then fed by conveyor belts (for the aggregate) and tubes (for the water) directly into the concrete mixer to the exact weight and combination.
The front-end loader keeps our hoppers fed with aggregate throughout the day while our certified plant batchers enter and monitor each order for accuracy and processing time.
Our new plant efficiency in numbers:
- 6mins to load a truck vs 15mins through the old plant
- 10 trucks per hour vs 4 trucks per hour through the old plant
- 60m3 concrete per hour vs 20m3 concrete per hour through the old plant
